This is what a $1000 robot bartender looks like

There’s nothing better than a stiff cocktail during the holiday season. And if you don’t feel like making one yourself, there's now a robot bartender to do all the shaking and mixing for you.

The Barsys robot bartender comes programmed with more than 2,000 cocktails that can be activated through a Barsys app. The robot can also whip up custom cocktails for special events, just input the ingredients and the machine will do the rest.

Barsys' 27-year-old founder, Akshet Tewari, came up with the concept during his last semester in an engineering program. He then spent the next four years developing the robot.

“I was really craving a Long Island Iced Tea when I came up with the idea for Barsys,” Tewari told Insider. “I was working on my robotics final and wasn't exactly sober. Just as we were finishing up, I turned to my friend and said 'wouldn't it be cool if a robot could make us our next drink?' - that's where Barsys first started.”

“While most people would have sobered up, nursed their hangover, and moved on, I couldn't stop thinking about how to make a great looking machine with the ability to make amazing cocktails,” Tewari said.

These days, Tewari has moved on from Long Island Iced Teas to some of the machine's more inventive offerings, naming the Madras (described as 'a mellower version of a Cosmopolitan') among his favorites.

“I really enjoy a lot of variety and discovering new combinations, which is one of the things a lot of people like about the automated bartender. In a way, I created Barsys for myself and then thought that other people would probably like one too."
