This is the huge trail of concrete left by a lorry spilling its load on Briton Ferry bridge

It wasn't hard to spot where a concrete lorry had been heading in Briton Ferry .

All police had to do was follow the trail - and it was quite a lengthy one.

The vehicle had spilled a large amount of concrete as it travelled along the A48.

As a result, the inside lane of the stretch towards Swansea was closed for three hours from around 4pm on Tuesday while the cleanup took place.

Several cars were stranded while the concrete was removed by hand using shovels, one of which can be seen propped against an Audi that is hemmed in by all the mess.

A video shot by police shows the trail running from the traffic lights on the A48 bridge at Briton Ferry and around the left bend in the direction of Swansea.

It's not clear whether the lorry driver was aware of the spilled load at the time.

Officers from South Wales Police had to do some of the heavy lifting to clear up the mess.

In a tweet the South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit said: “Thank you to the lorry driver who spilt the concrete on Briton Ferry bridge. Saves officers going to the gym."

South Wales Police appealed for anyone with information about the driver, or the driver themself, to come forward, saying: “We are sure that whoever ordered the concrete will only have half a completed job due to the spillage, so let’s hope that the driver will come forward.”

And that’s just what happened.

A spokesman for the force confirmed the driver had contacted the police, but it has not been revealed what, if any, further action will be taken.
