Near the bustling Grassmarket in Edinburgh, you can escape onto a winding, cobbled street to find one the UK's best whisky bars.
The Bow Bar, nestled on the colourful West Bow (Victoria Street) in the city's Old Town, is a self-confessed "no frills" pub that prides itself on its cask beers and single malts.
It has just been crowned among the UK's best whisky pubs by the Good Pub Guide, which is a must-see list for drinkers across the country and has remained a bestselling travel guide for over 30 years.
It's no surprise that experts were wooed by The Bow Bar's charm, which has the feel of Edinburgh's traditional pubs, despite having only existed since the late 1900s - while many date back to the 1800s, and further still.
They have over 300 single malts for you to sample, as well as eight brass taps dispensing delicious ales, six keg beers and stock a selection of international bottled beers.
If you get peckish, you can always grab on of their pies, with a choice of: steak and ale, pork and blue cheese, venison and red berry, moroccan lamb, chicken and leek, haggis neeps and tatties or spinach and goat's cheese.
They operate a no-music policy so this is the perfect place to come and read your book with a quiet pint, or a nip of whisky - it is also known to be a favourite haunt of crime writer Ian Rankin.
