This Day In Music - 4 September

4 September 1968 - The Bee Gees had their second UK No 1 single with 'I've Gotta Get a Message to You'. An example of the harmonic soft rock sound they initially became famous for, it would be another nine years before they cemented their reputation as the kings of disco with the 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack.

A special collector's edition of Saturday Night Fever is rereleased on DVD on 1 October, with the host of usual extras. Reprise are also bringing out a new issue of the double compilation Bee Gees' Greatest, including two previously unreleased tracks 'Warm Ride' and an extended version of 'Stayin' Alive'. There's also four 'contemporary dance remixes' (there's a term to send a shiver down any disco heads spine) - 'You Should Be Dancing' (Jason Bentley/Phillip Steir Remix), 'If I Can't Have You' (Count Da Money Remix), 'Night Fever' (Future Funk Squad Remix), and 'How Deep Is Your Love' (Surpeme Beings Of Leisure Remix).
