Third case of Covid-19 confirmed at Bristol secondary school

More students at a Bristol school have been forced into self-isolation after a classmate tested positive for Covid-19.

A student in year nine at Bedminster Down School has had a positive test and a letter informing parents was sent out this afternoon (Friday).

In the letter from principal Debbie Gibbs and chief executive Andrea Arlidge it said: “We have been advised that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within Bedminster Down School in our Year 9 group.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

“As a result, some children in Year 9 have been asked to self-isolate. We will keep this under review.”

It is the third confirmed case of the virus since the school, which has a roll of 1080 students, re-opened on March 8.

The other cases were in Year 7 and Year 11.

Those who are deemed as close contacts of the affected students have received a seperate letter informing them they need to self isolate.

The school, part of the Wellsway Multi Academy Trust, is working with Public Health England.
