'Think about the impact' - Stark warning from police as Skegness braces for more visitors

Police have issued a stark warning to people planning to visit Skegness this weekend - "Think about the impact".

More people and more cars are expected at the Lincolnshire seaside resort this weekend after lockdown rules were partially relaxed.

Deputy Chief Constable of Lincolnshire police Jason Harwin is appealing for people to 'stay alert' whether they are going to the coast for unlimited exercise or a garden centre and to also respect communities, reports Lincolnshire Live.

Mr Harwin, who chairs Lincolnshire Resilience Forum, said: "This is the first weekend since the easing in restrictions and we are anticipating increases in traffic and pedestrian movement, whether that's people going to garden centres or to beauty spots including the coast.

"We are not saying people cannot visit the coast, but people should listen to the advice and stay alert.

"If you do go out, think about the impact, remind yourself of social distancing, wash your hands and consider wearing face coverings in confined areas."

Mr Harwin said visiting the Lincolnshire coast and countryside potentially impacts on local people, some of whom are nervous about the prospect of visitors at this time.

He said: "What you previously had at the coast, the car parks and toilets, are not open and there is not the same level of lifeguards cover as before."
