Thieves use wheelie bin in attempt to steal Sutton in Ashfield garage cash machine

Thieves attempted to prise a cash machine from the floor during a burglary at a BP garage.

To access the cash machine, which was inside the Post Office section of the petrol station, the thieves pushed a wheelie bin through a window.

The incident happened at around 2.45am on Friday, February 7 in Mansfield Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield, but the thieves fled the scene empty handed.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: "The offenders left before officers arrived.

"No items were stolen and no one was hurt. If you saw anything suspicious or have any information please call 101, quoting incident 73 of 7 February 2020."

Officers and crime scene investigators remain at the scene and no arrests have been made.

The petrol station is also home to a Spar shop and WHSmith.
