CHON BURI: Burglars broke into a condominium unit of a German man and his Thai wife early Wednesday morning and made off with cash and valuables worth almost 150,000 baht by stealing the safe they were in, police said.

The heist was reported at Diamond Suites Resort and Condominium in Bang Lamung district about 1.30am by Mayuree Waworschech, 46, who returned from dinner with her family to find the room had been ransacked.

She said the safe - where she kept gold jewellery including two rings worth 80,000 baht and cash of 1,750 euros (66,600 baht) - was missing. The safe had been inside the closet.

According to Ms Mayuree, her handbag with 175 euros (6,650 baht) and several important documents in it was also taken. She had left it on top of the television shelf.

Police said there was no sign of forced entry, but they found a sliding window open when inspecting the room for evidence.
