Thieves steal livestock and spray vile coronavirus graffiti at allotments

Thieves have cruelly stolen livestock and daubed vile graffiti at allotments in Widnes.

Photos from the scene showed containers covered in offensive language as vandals ran amok at Farnworth Allotments, just off Factory Lane.

Offensive phrases attacking travellers and phrases such as "I hope you get Covid-19" appeared on fencing and containers on Tuesday morning.

Attacking the travelling community, spray painters also wrote "scum".

The horrendous graffiti appeared as millions of people have been told to stay indoors and go outside only if it's essential by the government, to try to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Police said livestock was also stolen from Farnworth Allotments (Andrew Teebay)

Police said "extra attention" will be given to the area, as livestock was also stolen.

Farnworth Police said: "Livestock has been stolen and offensive graffiti has been sprayed on fencing and containers causing criminal damage at the allotments off Factory Lane.

"Extra attention will be given to the area. If you have any information as to who is responsible, please call 101 ref IML668898."

Police posted the update on Twitter as people on social media condemned the behaviour.

Danny O'Connor wrote: "Yep, saw this while walking the dogs. Disgusting behaviour at an awful time."
