Thieves prise open ATM at petrol station and steal cash

Thieves broke into a petrol station and prised open the cash machine inside.

Police were called to reports of a ATM robbery at the Jet Petrol Station, on Oldfield Road, in Salford, this morning (Wednesday).

Images taken from the scene show a damaged wall and rubble surrounding the building.

A police spokeswoman said the robbers prised open the ATM to get to the cash inside.

It is unknown how much was stolen.

Greater Manchester Police were alerted to the incident around midnight when a caller reported loud voices and banging.

A statement said: "Shortly after midnight on October 9, 2010, police were called to reports of an ATM attack at a petrol station on Oldfield Road in Salford. Loud voices and banging could be heard.

"The ATM was prised open and an unknown amount of was cash stolen."

There have been no reports of any arrests.
