Thiago Silva thanks PSG for 'unforgettable moments' ahead of expected Chelsea transfer

Thiago Silva has said an emotional goodbye to Paris-Saint Germain fans as he prepares to complete his transfer to Chelsea.

The Brazilian defender is a free agent after his contract with PSG expired, and he is expected to complete a medical on Thursday before becoming Frank Lampard's fourth signing of the summer.

And Silva took to social media to tell fans of the Ligue 1 champions that he and his family will "forever carry France in our hearts".

"Today a cycle ends," wrote the 35-year-old on Instagram.

"After eight years with the @psg team, I would like to thank my teammates, the whole technical team and management, the fans, my family, God and friends, for all these happy moments we experienced in the City of Light.

"Here with @bellesilva, we have experienced unforgettable moments, our children have grown, we have become French citizens, and we will forever carry these years and France in our hearts."

In response to Silva's post, former Chelsea and England captain John Terry dropped a big hint that the defender is on his way to Stamford Bridge, responding with a blue heart and an eyes emoji.

Silva made 315 appearances for PSG, helping them win seven Ligue 1 titles during his eight-year stint in the French capital, as well as 11 other trophies.

He was unable to leave the club as a Champions League winner, playing his last game for the club in Sunday's final defeat to Bayern Munich.

But he will have the chance to win European club football's biggest prize for Lampard's side next season, with the centre-half expected to complete his move on Thursday if he passes his medical.

Silva will be Chelsea's second defensive signing of the summer, after the west London club confirmed the arrival of Ben Chilwell from Leicester on Wednesday in a deal thought to be worth around £50million.

The Stamford Bridge side have also signed striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and winger Hakim Ziyech from Ajax for a combined £89m.
