‘They voted for this to happen to others’: People are not convinced after federal workers express dissatisfaction over Trump, despite voting for him twice

Trump opposers are not in the mood to forgive former supporters after expressing resentment over their past voting patterns. And honestly, why would they? Did they think they would not be affected by their choices, or were they not paying attention when Trump was showing them exactly what his Presidency would look like?

Since October 1 this year, the United States government has been in shutdown following an unresolved deadlock between Democrats and Republicans over a funding bill. While the Republicans have extensively blamed their opposition for the situation, calling it a Democrat-led government shutdown, details revealed insinuate that it was more of a forced Republican shutdown.

Nevertheless, in the pretext of the government remaining suspended during this time, the Republicans have threatened to take away the jobs of several federal employees and have even sent termination notices to a few of them. The workers are naturally unhappy and are banding up to oppose Trump and his administration’s dictatorial practices. However, the people who had always opposed Trump are standing strongly against the people who had always unrelentingly supported him by voting for him, not once, but twice.

Recently, a video of a former Trump supporter expressing his grievances towards the current regime grabbed eyeballs on social media, including X. In the video, he says:

“My district went for Trump both in 2016 and 2024, and a lot of my friends supported him. But, lately, they are saying that ‘I didn’t vote for this’.They didn’t vote for the parks to close, health care costs to skyrocket, veterans to lose care, and for tens of thousands of federal employees to be at risk of losing their jobs.”

One user took note of the man’s comments and wrote:

“Moral of the story -They voted for this to happen to others but thought they’d be exempt bc or the adjacent crowd somehow thought they’d be exempted.”

Another user wrote, “No you voted for whiteness and that backfired…”

Several others shared similar sentiments in their unwillingness to forgive the people who voted for Trump.
