‘They seemed reputable’: Woman moves from North Carolina to Colorado, hires All My Sons. Then they show up to her storage unit

Moving across the country is stressful enough. Packing up your entire life, shipping it hundreds of miles, and trusting strangers to handle it all takes a leap of faith.

For TikToker Emily Cole (@eemilycolee), that trust ended in a nightmare when she allegedly hired All My Sons for her move from North Carolina to Colorado.

Woman shares horror moving story with All My Sons

Emily began by explaining that she chose All My Sons because of their reputation.

“They seemed very reputable,” she said, adding that she’d seen them partnered with NFL teams.

But from the start, she said, it didn’t go well. She explained that the movers were scheduled to meet her at 8 a.m. at her storage unit in Durham, but instead called shortly before and told her they were eating breakfast.

“I had flown to Durham just to help load my stuff and had no car,” she said, adding that she was left waiting in the storage lot for over an hour.

‘They didn’t inventory anything’

Once they arrived, she expected a more professional process. Instead, she says they loaded everything without taking inventory.

“I guess that’s just the norm for them,” she said at the time, though later learned from the Colorado office that “they inventory every single move that they do,” which didn’t happen in her case.

She also learned she’d misunderstood their trucking arrangement. The movers initially loaded her things into one of their trucks, but later told her that because she had chosen a shared truck option, the load would be subcontracted to a third-party Old Dominion truck.

“They had to unload everything they’d just packed and transfer it,” she said, adding that the company didn’t monitor that repacking process.

‘Everything’s destroyed’

When her belongings arrived in Colorado, she got a call from the local All My Sons crew.

“They said, ‘Everything’s destroyed. We’ve been moving for 15 years, and we’ve literally never seen anything this bad,’” she recalled.

Emily said much of her furniture was so damaged that they couldn’t even carry it into her apartment. Her desk, two dressers, TV, bar stools, and glassware were all broken.

“I’m grateful my parents were there to help me handle it,” she said. “I think I would have broken down if I was on my own.”

A refund runaround

The Colorado movers allegedly encouraged her to seek a refund, but Emily said she’s been getting the runaround ever since.

“They told me to go through the Raleigh office,” she said, explaining that one employee initially told her she’d be getting a full refund. “That made me feel so much better.”

But when she followed up, she was told otherwise. “Now they’re saying I’m not getting a refund, and every time I call, I get a different person pushing me off to someone else,” she said.

She added that she had purchased insurance but had to “chase them down” just to get the claim form. At this point, she’s considering small claims court.

“If you’re planning a move, please make sure you use a reputable company that someone you know has used,” she advised. “Get everyone’s names and make sure they take inventory.”

What are other All My Sons customers saying?

People who have used All My Sons for their moves report wildly different experiences.

On TrustPilot, the company holds a 3.8-star rating. Out of 1,875 reviews, nearly half are 1‑star, while the rest are 5‑star.

Some reviewers praised the company for being reliable and easy to work with. “It was amazing to watch how thoroughly they wrapped & protected the furniture,” one person wrote.

Another added, “Would highly recommend to anyone needing moving services.”

Others, however, described the opposite. One reviewer said they were given a “deceitful quote” of $495, only to be “forced” to pay nearly $800 for a move just 1.3 miles away.

Another, a senior donating a piano eight miles from their home, said they were charged $1,000 for the move plus $134 for gas, and claimed the team also damaged one of the piano’s legs.

There are also Reddit threads dedicated to the company, with some users warning others to stay away completely, while others question why reviews for the same company can be so different.

Commenters share their thoughts

Emily’s story hit a nerve with viewers, many of whom had a negative experience with the company.

“They scammed me out of $3K last summer! AWFUL!!!!!” one person wrote.

“Just serve them papers for a refund PLUS cost of damages,” another suggested. “Most lawyers will write this up for a flat fee.”

“I also had a horrible experience with them,” someone else added. “The manager was SO RUDE and not apologetic whatsoever.”

One commenter shared: “They showed up 4 hours late and charged me $1,200 for a 3-hour move after quoting me $400. The manager told me he didn’t believe me when I said we moved half the boxes ourselves.”
