A woman has gone viral for airing her dirty laundry after a laundromat life hack went wrong.
In the viral clip, Liberty May (@libertymay98) explained how a man recently told her a life hack. Apparently, if she took her clothes to a laundromat for a full service—which includes washing, drying and folding clothes—it’s “super cheap.” Especially since, according to him, they only charge a few cents per pound of clothes.
“I was like, ‘That’s a great idea! That’s a great idea, because the washer and dryer at my apartment complex are always being used,” she recalled. “Tell me why I drop off one basket of clothes [and] it’s not ready until two days later.”
She continued, “They don’t tell me the price when I drop it off. I was just kind of like, ‘Oh, it’s some cents per pound.’ And they were like, ‘Yeah, yeah, it is.”
“Whoever told me this life hack, you’re a liar,” she said. “You’re the father of lies, OK? $50… $50 for this.”
Her clip amassed 297,200 views.
Viewes had different experiences
In the comments, one user questioned why a laundromat trip was even necessary.
“Ok, how are y’all wasting a day doing laundry?” they asked. “I throw mine in the washer and do other things, then put them in the dryer and do other things….it only takes minutes to fold them… I’m not paying 50 bucks and driving back and forth to a service.”
Another noted how this TikTok made them “appreciate [their] neighborhood laundromat more.”
“The lady weighs my bags and then she charges me one dollar per pound, and they wash, dry, fold, [and] bleach,” they said. “Maybe a dollar or two extra, I get charged, like $70 when I pick up in the same day.”
Numerous others continued to share their own personal laundromat experience. A third said, “I go to a laundromat down the street from my house once a week and it costs me about $20 to wash/dry my clothes, my husband’s and our teenage daughters. I don’t mind it as much bc at least this way I can wash 3 big loads in the industrial washers instead of spending all day doing small loads lol takes about 1.5hr.”

Based on these and other comments, it looks like the $50 price tag was a little on the high side. However, it’s actually not too uncommon.

What else is happening on LaundryTok?
In other laundry news, LaundryToker Melissa Pateras (@melissadilkespateras) went viral after sharing what a ‘heavy’ wash cycle was actually for as part of a ‘stitched’ video.
“You don’t need the heavy cycle for every load of towels, but that cycle is intended for heavily soiled or durable fabrics like towels, jeans, blankets, or even work clothes,” she advised. “It uses higher spin speeds to extract more of the water from those thick and heavy items.”
So, ‘heavy’ doesn’t necessarily mean a heavy laundry load. It’s more about the individual fabrics and how thorough a wash they need.
