A woman inadvertently donated a box containing all of her husband’s shoes to Goodwill during a hectic move. Here’s what happens when she attempts to get them back.
TikTok user Cassidy (@cassidylmason) posted a video about her moving mishap earlier this week. In the video, she explains how a box of her husband’s shoes ended up at Goodwill instead of their new home.
“Have you ever accidentally donated something to Goodwill and had to go back and get it?” she says. “We’re moving, and I just donated the entire box of my husband’s shoes. Every single pair of his shoes—except for the Crocs he’s wearing today.”
She continues, “Come with me to Goodwill and see if I can get my husband’s shoes back.”
What Happens When You Accidentally Donate Items to Goodwill?
The woman records as she pulls up to the Goodwill donation center. She tells the attendant what happened, and he is momentarily speechless. He asks how long ago she made the donation, and Cassidy replies that she dropped it off an hour ago.
“Well, I’ll have to check and see, because we already processed the shoes and stuff,” he tells her.
Cassidy’s sigh tells you how she feels about this news. In the caption, she writes, “What in the world! Has this ever happened to you?”
Viewers React to the Accidental Donation
In the comments, viewers reacted to the woman’s moving horror story with shock and skepticism.
Several viewers said there is no way the Goodwill team processed the box of shoes that quickly.
“Ain’t no way they already ‘processed the shoes,’” one person wrote. “Have you seen the stuff piled up the walls for them to go through?”
A second user said, “I would demand to speak to the manager. It usually takes a few days for donations to get out onto the floor. Unless you live in a very tiny town and they have no donations. I do live in a college town and that’s how ours works.”
Cassidy Posts An Update to the ‘Goodwill Saga’
In a follow-up video posted a day later, Cassidy reveals an update. When the attendant she was speaking to in the first video went to find his manager, Cassidy decided to take matters into her own hands and check the warehouse for her husband’s shoes.
“I stumbled on the tub that had all my husband’s shoes in them,” Cassidy said. “And no they had not been ‘processed’ at all. Every single pair was still in that bin. So, yes, we got all my husband’s shoes back from Goodwill after I donated them.”
Can You Get a Donated Item Back From Goodwill?
In most cases, you should be able to get any accidentally donated items back from Goodwill. This FAQ page from Goodwill Alberta says customers should contact the Goodwill where they donated the item with as much information as possible about the time and location of the donation, as well as any photos they have of the item.
