"There are no limits" - Leeds United coach Marcos Abad opens up on life under Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United goalkeeping coach Marcos Abad has opened up on what life is like to work under head coach Marcelo Bielsa, insisting that nothing is ever off limits.

Abad joined the Whites back in 2017 and has experienced both the highs and lows that the clubs has felt over the last few years.

From the disappointment and heartache of losing last season's Championship play-off semi-final to Derby County in dramatic fashion at Elland Road to the delight of sealing a long-awaited return to the Premier League just a matter of weeks ago, securing promotion as champions, Abad has seen it all.

As well as experiencing both the best and worst of what English football can do to you, Abad, who has spent time at Middlesbrough in the past, has also had the privilege of working under one of football's managerial greats in Bielsa.

Now, Abad has opened up on what life is like working alongside the Argentine, insisting that the words 'you can not' do not belong in Bielsa's vocab book.

"There is an anecdote from the biography of Stephen King that reminded me of the figure of Marcelo, and that is that the American writer cannot allow himself to wait in line without doing anything else, Abad told Panenka.

"That represents Bielsa, it is perfectionism at its best, it is the nonconformity of the ordinary and the mediocre. For him, if there is a better way to do it, you have to try.

"Marcelo is learning not to use the 'you can not', there are no limits for him in the pursuit of excellence. That's when you realise that you have someone brilliant in front of you.

"They are those kind of geniuses who, although sometimes called crazy, dedicate all the time of their lives to becoming better and better at what they do. Not everyone is up for that."

Bielsa may be a perfectionist and demand nothing but the very best, but his strict demands have worked. Come September, Leeds will be playing Premier League football for the first time in just over 16 years.

Their return to the top-flight will be a boost for English football, with the Whites being steeped in history.

However, Leeds' promotion last month did not go down too well with supporters of some clubs, with some continuing to hold a hatred against the Whites.

"By numbers and records, it is a Leeds comparable to the best," Abad continued when asked if the current Leeds side was dirtier than the one that enjoyed an array of successes under Don Revie.

"They are different times, they are different moments in history, but it is a team that is going to leave its mark.

"When you arrive here you realise that many clubs hate us, but that feeling gives us extra energy.

"Still, I think this Leeds has been admired by opponents for his style, his delivery and because he maintains that English essence of intensity and attack.

"The Englishman is a player who accepts any proposal in training, who is very honest in sacrifice and demand.

"It will be impossible not to remember this Leeds United in 50 years."

Whatever approach Leeds decide to take in the Premier League, you can be guaranteed that Bielsa's side will give it everything they have got, with Bielsa demanding nothing less than 110 per cent every single day.

Abad added: "The challenge will be to transfer what we have done in the Championship to the best league in the world.

We want to show ourselves, and not anyone else, that this role that has been played so far can be up to the task in the Premier League.

"We know that it is going to be a very difficult year, a season where many fewer games will be won than in the last two years, but I think it is a team capable of putting up a lot of war."
