Theo Walcott has sent a classy message to Everton fans following confirmation of his loan move to Southampton.
The winger will spend the rest of the 2020/21 with the south coast club, with whom he started his senior career as a 16-year-old, following his deadline day switch.
The 31-year-old has one year remaining on his current contract with the Blues, meaning this temporary switch effectively brings his Goodison Park career to an end.
And Walcott has now taken to social media to send a classy message to Everton fans upon his departure.
His tweet read: "It’s been some start to the season @Everton.
"We have a great squad and with Mr Ancelotti in charge I’m sure it’s going to be a great campaign!
"Wishing the fans, players and staff the best of luck…see you soon!"
Walcott also admitted that there were multiple options available to him during this transfer window.
However, there was no doubt in his mind once his former club came back in for him.
“I had a few opportunities from other clubs, but as soon as Southampton came in for me, it’s part of me and has made me into the player I am. It’s in my heart," he added.
“I will probably cry, I bet, when I first play, and it means so much. All the people that made it happen, I can’t thank them enough. Honestly, I’m so pleased.
“I was seriously lost for words when Southampton came on the table, and for me it was such an easy decision.
“To get the chance to work with the manager as well and these young players that are coming through, I feel like I’ve made the right choice.”
