Last week saw the unveiling of what is described as "the world's hardest sudoku". It was created by Finnish mathematician Arto Inkala, who said it could take months to solve, barring "three or four lucky guesses". David Rowe, a retired economics academic and keen sudoku solver (he completes all the Guardian's hard sudokus in under 25 minutes), took up the challenge. He threw down his pencil after 35 minutes. "I don't think this one can be solved by logic alone," he concedes. And he won't be continuing: "Life is too short." (Solution in tomorrow's G2.)
