The Wembley pitch is 's***!': Mark van Bommel unimpressed as PSV lose to Tottenham

PSV Eindhoven coach Mark van Bommel labelled the state of the Wembley pitch as "s***" but refused to blame it for his team's loss to Tottenham on Tuesday night.

PSV took an early lead in their Champions League Group B game in London after Luuk de Jong headed in a corner kick in just the second minute.

But Harry Kane inspired Spurs to a comeback 2-1 victory with two goals in the final 12 minutes of the match to hand the north Londoners hope of still progressing to the knockout rounds of Europe's premier competition.

A day earlier, the Wembley pitch - which last month hosted three NFL games in three successive weeks - passed a standard pre-match inspection before the PSV players trained on it and Van Bommel then described it as "outright disturbing".

And after seeing his side concede a lead to lose to Spurs on Tuesday night, Van Bommel was less than complimentary about the state of the pitch - although he insisted he did not want to use it as an excuse for the end result.

When asked by reporters whether he had any complaints about the pitch, Van Bommel said: "No. It's s*** but...

"It's bad. It's not good but we aren't complaining. I told the guys after a minute 'stop complaining and go and get used to the pitch'.

"Everyone wants a good pitch but you have to deal with it."
