The Welshman who went viral for doing something pretty impressive with a pint of beer

People across the world are sharing a video of a man from Carmarthenshire who showed off an impressive drinking trick in his local pub last month. One Welsh social media account shared the video of Ryan Jones, 48, skillfully lifting a pint with his teeth and in the caption asked "Why? And why are they all Welsh?".

We've now tracked down the man behind the video, and although we didn't get the answers to either of those questions, we found out more about the legendary pint guzzler.

Ryan is known locally as 'Farmers' or 'Farmerotti'- as he was born in his local pub, the Farmer's Arms, in Penygroes, near Llanelli, and is likened by friends and family to the great opera singer, Pavarotti, due to his love of singing. The father and truck driver was clearly destined for drinking greatness as he spent his first moments in a pub and was a pub landlord for years.

During a typical evening spent drinking at his local in December, "the boys" asked him if he could still do an old pub trick he had shown them previously. But when his friend videoed him downing a pint using two glasses, only one of which he was allowed to touch, Ryan did not expect it to reach millions of viewers. "I've been doing it for about 30 years," he said of the trick a friend showed him when he was a teenager. "I've got loads of tricks, that's just one of them. I've kept over ten pubs over the years," he added.

On his moment in the spotlight as a highly influential pint drinker and, quite frankly, a cultural icon, Ryan said the fame had soon worn off. "It was alright the first day, but then the calls didn't stop. I turned my phone off for two days."

With the likes of LadBible and Piers Morgan sharing the video, Ryan said he was called by newspapers and radio shows who wanted to find out more about the man behind the pint glass and had people tapping him on the back in the street. His daughter even said she'd had enough of people asking after him on the bus. Despite the fame that drinking beer has brought him, Ryan is trying to stay off it and these days he calls himself more of a whiskey man. Although he is down the pub a lot less than he used to be, Ryan still prides himself on being able to do the trick with a full pint of beer as he said many people made it easier for themselves with less liquid. "The hardest part of the trick is to get the glass off the table," he explained. Ryan or 'Farmerotti' has since been challenged to perform the trick three times in a row in under five minutes, so stay tuned for more videos of Welsh drinking at its finest.
