The Voice coach Meghan Trainor's dad 'struck by car in apparent hit and run'

Meghan Trainor's dad has reportedly been hospitalised after being struck by a car in an apparent hit and run.

TMZ reports that The Voice UK coach's father, Gary Trainor, was hit by a vehicle in Los Angeles on Friday night.

Thankfully, it's believed he'll be okay after being taken to hospital.

The US site reports that former band teacher Gary, 71, was hit while he was crossing a busy street on foot near the San Fernando Valley.

He was transported to a nearby emergency room, and it's said that his condition is stable.

It's thought he'll make a full recovery from his injuries.

No official word on a description of the driver has been put out yet and it's unknown at this stage if police are looking into the incident.

Meghan, 26, is very close to her dad, with him having mentored her towards becoming the star she is today.

He showed her the ropes in the music game and is a piano player himself. It's thought he lent his talent to one of her early EPs by being featured on two tracks.

It's thought he produced her song Cupid and that he helped out on her track Tumble too. Both tracks were on her EP Only 17.

He's credited with helping launch her career and has appeared alongside his daughter at multiple public events and awards shows.

Just last month, Gary made a surprise appearance alongside Meghan on The Voice.

Meghan was chatting to her fellow coaches, Olly Murs, Will.i.am and Tom Jones about her dad when they suggested he got up on stage to show off his piano playing skills.

Gary didn't seem keen at first but after some encouragement from the audience, he got up to play.

An excited Meghan said she wanted to spin her chair for her dad.

With some help from the live band, Gary played Tom's Shake Rattle & Roll as the singer and the rest of the coaches joined in for an impromptu singalong.

Meghan looked ecstatic as she watched her dad perform, cheering for him and clapping as the audience went wild.

Mirror Online has contacted Meghan's representatives for comment.
