The unwanted Premier League record Jesse Marsch will be desperate to avoid at Leeds United

Jesse Marsch will need to shore up his Leeds United defence to avoid breaking an unwanted Premier League record this season.

The Whites have already conceded 60 goals over the course of the current campaign – with 20 of those having come in their last five matches – which was ultimately a major factor in Marcelo Bielsa losing his job.

The 66-year-old was sacked after just over three-and-a-half-years in charge and leaves having created a string of wonderful memories for Leeds supporters.

Marsch, though, will be coming into a side bereft of confidence and on a slippery slope of poor results.

According to research done from Bettingexpert, Leeds are on course to concede 88 goals in the Premier League if they continue at their current rate.

Only Swindon Town, who shipped 100 goals in 1993-94, and Derby County, who let in 89 in 2007-08 would have worse defensive records, and the former shipped theirs over the course of 42 games.

That Rams side currently hold the record for the worst Premier League of all time – as they amassed just 11 points with one win under their belt.

Thankfully for Leeds this season, their attack have still been performing to a decent standard with 29 goals so far, which is just about enough to keep them out of the bottom three as it stands.

However, no side in Premier League history has ever stayed up having shipped 80 goals or more and so Marsch must place defensive organisation high up on his list of priorities if he wants to be a success at Elland Road.
