The unexpected business Jamie Roberts has set up with his girlfriend and neighbour

He's able to spot potential weaknesses in opposing defences.

And now it seems Wales rugby star Jamie Roberts, alongside a Bath neighbour, has an eye for a business venture right on his doorstep.

Deckchairs are more associated with the vast coastal resorts of Blackpool, Bournemouth or Brighton but, in the last few weeks, they're popping up on Bath's Royal Crescent.

And that's because former Lions battering ram Roberts, along with his partner Nicole Ramson and neighbour Sharron Jefferson, have started up a luxury deckchair hire business.

Their start-up company "Cheeks on Seats" allows tourists from across the world to view one of the most stunning examples of Georgian architecture in the country from the comfort of a top-of-the-range deckchair.

Roberts told the Bath Chronicle: "It was my neighbour Sharron Jefferson's idea originally. Lots of people, including tourists and students, come to the lawn every day to look at the Royal Crescent but she noticed they usually end up sitting on the grass.

"That's where the idea of luxury deckchairs came from. We started earlier this year and over the Easter weekend, when the weather was really good, we absolutely killed it. We were very busy.

"The Royal Crescent is an amazing part of the city and this is a great, simple way for people to relax and enjoy it.

"This is just a cool little start-up business.

"It's a very simple idea. It's been going well so far and we're hoping for a long, hot summer."

Jamie's partner Nicole looked after the branding and marketing side of the start-up.

Deckchair hire costs £2 per hour or £10 per day. Students can hire one for £1 an hour.

The trio are planning to expand their offerings to include cream tea and picnic options and they also have a giant deckchair for photo ops.

Roberts, capped 94 times by Wales as well as having three Lions Tests under his belt, is juggling studying for a Masters degree in business administration at Loughborough University while still playing full-time with Gallagher Premiership club Bath.

The 32-year-old qualified doctor joined the west country club from Harlequins last summer and has another year left on his deal at The Rec.

He missed Bath's final Premiership match against Leicester Tigers at the weekend with an ankle injury and is a high-profile absentee from Warren Gatland's World Cup training squad ahead of the tournament in Japan.
