The UK’s favourite rom-com revealed in time for Valentine’s Day

It has been revealed that the 1990 classic, Pretty Woman, is the UK’s favourite romantic-comedy.

The search-data specialists at Liberty Marketing have taken a look at the monthly searches for people looking to watch each of the rom-coms in IMDB’s top 100, and scored them against their position in the list to give an overall score.

Pretty Woman is number one on IMDB, yet is the ninth most searched for movie people are watching from IMDB’s list.

Based on Liberty’s formula, the top 10 rom-coms in the UK are:

1. Pretty Woman (1990)

2. Notting Hill (1999)

3. Sliding Doors (1998)

4. The Proposal (2009)

5. Serendipity (2001)

6. Emma (2020)

7. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

8. Falling in Love (1984)

9. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

10. Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)

When commenting on the findings, Nicola Lewis, Account Manager at Liberty Marketing said: "Julia Roberts has done well here, taking first and second position! Pretty Woman is a really great film so I'm not surprised that it's top.

"What I am surprised at is the likes of Sliding Doors making the top three - I've not watched it before and I'd call myself the rom-com queen. Guess that's my Valentine's Day sorted!”

Pretty Woman was released in 1990, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and racking in a total of over $463.4m in the Box Office.

The search term ‘Pretty Woman film’ gets, on average, 1.3k searches a month. Globally, it receives around 6.2k searches a month.

Today, Pretty Woman can be watched on Disney+, while Notting Hill can be watched with a Netflix or Amazon Prime subscription, and Sliding Doors can only be watched on Amazon Prime for 99p.
