Mum, 28, dies after collapsing in Butlin's tragedy

The husband of a woman who died after falling unwell at Butlin's says her death has left him “numb”.

Jodie O’Connell, from Wigan, was at Butlin’s Skegness resort with her family when she suffered an aneurysm.

The mother-of-one reportedly collapsed after going on a ride at the Butlin's Splash centre on October 14.

The 28-year-old was rushed to a hospital in Nottingham but tragically passed away two days later.

In a moving tribute, her husband, Mikey O’Connell, said: "Unfortunately my gorgeous beautiful amazing wonderful wife Jodie O'Connell gained her angel wings last night she died peacefully in her sleep and in no pain.

"Those who try hard to keep her with us I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

"I've told our gorgeous little princess and she is upset but she knows mummy loves her to the moon and back again."

Bonfire Night celebrations and firework displays in Manchester cancelled

(Manchester Evening News)

Manchester's popular firework displays and bonfire night celebrations have officially been called off for another year.

Eight free council-organised events won't take place this November, due to the current Government advice around large-scale events.

Manchester City Council said that the guidance around Covid-19 safety has made the events 'unworkable' and that the 'health of Manchester people has to come first'.

It will mean that the events, which are normally attended by more than 100,000 people, won't take place for a second year in a row.

The displays and bonfires at Heaton Park, Platt Fields Park, Wythenshawe Park, Crumpsall Park, the Eithad Campus, Cringle Park, Debdale Park and Brookdale Park are all cancelled.

The Government is still advising that attendees of large events should prove their Covid status - either a negative test, double vaccination or natural immunity - which the council says would require 'significant' staffing and infrastructure.

Mum's fury after she's hit with £160 fine for using restaurant's car park 'for five minutes'

The woman used the Forts of India car park in Whitefield (Manchester Evening News)

A mum who used a restaurant car park for 'five minutes' whilst she nipped into a shop has branded a £160 parking fine as 'unfair.'

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, claims she parked in a car park owned by the Forts of India restaurant in Whitefield whilst it was closed - as there was nowhere else to park.

After refusing to pay the initial fine, she has now received a letter from a company named Debt Recovery Plus, informing her she owns the restaurant £160.

The mum, who says she assumed it would be okay to use the car park for a few minutes whilst no customers were around, said that having to pay such a hefty sum "doesn't seem right."

But restaurant bosses say they have "every right" to impose the fine, and stand by their decision to employ a private company to look after the car park.

Restaurant manager, Ali Mohammed, claims there are dozens of big red signs in the car park which clearly state that the area is for customers only.

Heartbreak as popular Manchester football agent dies after catching coronavirus

Christopher Adedeji with Harry Redknapp (Christopher Adedeji)

Tributes have poured in for a popular football agent and dad-of-six who has died after contracting coronavirus.

Christopher Adedeji, 53, has been described his friends and family as an "inspirational man" who had a "heart of gold" following his tragic death last month.

The agent, who rubbed shoulders with the likes of Harry Redknapp, had been working with young football players to help progress their careers before the pandemic hit.

The devoted father's life was said to be "dominated" by his "immense passion" for football.

Christopher underwent a kidney transplant in 2019, meaning he was immunocompromised and at risk of becoming seriously unwell if he contracted coronavirus.

His former partner and close friend, Denise Osman, said he was first in line to get his vaccine and had been double jabbed as soon as he was eligible.

But shortly after his 53rd birthday in July, Christopher was notified by the NHS coronavirus app that he needed to self isolate after coming into close contact with an infected person.

Manchester Arena bomber's brother says he 'will not be attending' public inquiry

Ismail Abedi (Josie Ensore via Facebook)

The elder brother of Manchester Arena bomber Salman Abedi 'will not be attending' the public inquiry into the atrocity and is 'unwilling' to give any evidence.

The Manchester Evening New s has been sent a statement from Ismail's Abedi's legal team that was supplied to the inquiry ahead of his scheduled appearance to give evidence on Thursday.

Mr Abedi - who his solicitor said has been 'assigned a new identity to protect him' - was stopped by police at Manchester Airport as he tried to leave the country on August 28 and questioned under the Terrorism Act, but boarded a flight and left the country the very next day.

He had been legally ordered to attend the inquiry - and was accused by counsel on Thursday of 'laughing in the face' of the process by 'fleeing'.

The development comes as the parents of teenage sweethearts Liam Curry, 19, and Chloe Rutherford, 17, who lost their lives in the 2017 terror bombing, said answers were 'urgently needed so that we can understand how this was allowed to happen'.

Thugs 'could have killed family' after blowing up house with petrol bomb

Firefighters at the scene in the aftermath of the blaze (ABNM Photography)

A family lost everything in a devastating petrol bomb attack committed in revenge following a petty feud between college students.

The Azeta family home in Moston was gutted after the bomb was thrown through a living room window which was smashed.

It exploded into flames and a mum was 'lucky to escape with her life' after it ignited near her.

Davide Imuetinyan, 20, and Benjamin Ankers, 18, have been jailed for arson following the catastrophic fire at the terraced house on Bordale Avenue, which cost £27,000 to repair.

The family had to move out of their home, while their children had to change schools.

A 'grudge' had developed between Imuetinyan and Elvis Azeta, after they had a fight at a party.

Mr Azeta was not in the house at the time of the arson attack but his family were.

His father was in bed, but he as well as Mr Azeta's two siblings and mother were able to escape.

For a short time Susan Azeta didn't know whether her husband or her 15-year-old daughter who were upstairs had got out, Manchester Crown Court heard.
