The top Edinburgh spots named among Good Food Guide 'Best Local Restaurants'

The UK's 100 Best Local Restaurants have been named by an influential food guide and some of Edinburgh's best eateries have made the list.

The exciting list announced by the Good Food Guide saw the best spots from across the UK named and three restaurants in the capital were named.

The list was nominated by the public (with over 37,000 nominations) and was confirmed by the Guide's inspectors, who visited each of those picked out to see which were deserving of being added to the final shortlist.

From Edinburgh, the Palmerston and L'escargot Bleu (which was also recently named Edinburgh's best at the Scottish Restaurant Awards) were picked out by the GFG team, as was the new Kora by Tom Kitchin.

Further afield in Fife, The Dory Bistro was also chosen and The Kinneuchar Inn was named the overall best pick for Scotland.

Tallow, a neighbourhood restaurant in Southborough, Royal Tunbridge Wells has been named the overall Best Local Restaurant by The Good Food Guide, topping a list of 100 local favourites across the country.

Britain’s 100 Best Local Restaurants will provide a huge boost to the hospitality industry across the country, highlighting those who often miss the spotlight whilst providing an excellent and vital service to their community.

Speaking about the awards, CEO of UKHospitality, Kate Nicholls, said: “Local restaurants are so often the heartbeat of communities; providing jobs, generating economic growth and, most importantly, providing fantastic food.

"It’s brilliant to see such huge support from the public for their local restaurants and is deserved recognition of their hard work. This sort of support is invaluable as venues face ever-rising costs and is essential in keeping valued businesses viable.”

Co-founder of the Northern Bar and Restaurant Show, Thom Hetherington, added: “The Good Food Guide was a revelation to me as a fledgling foodie 25 years ago, and its authority and independence is as crucial to today’s diners as ever - not just highlighting big names, but shining a light on the sometimes hidden restaurant gems that locals love and others need to know about.”
