The Tom Ford showcase: five things to expect for AW15

1. Eveningwear

The red carpet offering from Tom Ford is always top notch. For autumn/winter 2015 he served up an array of graphic optical-print monochrome blazers. Let’s hope Oscar hopeful Eddie Redmayne takes note and livens up the sea of trad tuxedos at the Academy Awards.

2. Photo-friendly

Ford, who always bucks the trend by talking his “audience” through the collection, this season admitted to “embracing” social media as he presented his collection. “I am always asked about taking photographs and I always fight it but this time I’ve relented and had a studio set built for you – so please do take pictures.” He went the whole hog, erecting an entire photoshoot set complete with the perfect lighting. Pure class.

3. Trend bucking

While most of London championed the sock and ankle boot, mankles got an airing in retro training pumps teamed with sleek black evening suits.

4. Shearling

The runaway trend at London Collections got its final sign off from Mr Ford, longtime supporter of the leather shearling-backed coat. This is “alpha shearling”, ie, the stuff of dreams.

5. Tailoring with a twist

Grey check suiting with a slight 1960s feel to the silhouette, styled with a blue-and-white striped shirt and bottle-green tie. The perfect clash.
