The Tension On The Block Has Gotten So Intense, Producers Have Apparently Had To Step In

The Block tension

After what’s easily been a much messier season for some, with tensions high between multiple houses, it looks like Mat and Robby are stepping in to play therapists and human glue sticks to pull this season back to the harmonious The Block we were promised.

Multiple insiders have spilled to PEDESTRIAN.TV that the boys’ chill, drama-free energy might be the only thing holding this cursed Daylesford cast together before auction day.

“They’re the glue holding everyone together at the moment,” one production insider says. “They’ve never taken sides and producers are quietly hoping they can help heal some of the tension before the finale.”

And tbh, they might need a miracle.

This year’s cast has been split like a dodgy floorboard. Ben and Em plus Britt and Taz are everyone’s wholesome faves, while Han and Cam have brought chaos both on and off the tools. Meanwhile, Alicia and Sonny have copped it hard online, with trolling and behind-the-scenes stress hitting boiling point.

“It’s been hard to get everyone in the same room, let alone on the same page,” another insider admits. “With auction day around the corner, producers know they need a united front or it’ll be carnage.”

That’s where Mat and Robbie come in. The easygoing best mates who’ve somehow stayed ‘Switzerland’ while everyone else has been one bad tiling job away from meltdown.

“They’ve stayed out of the drama and focused on the build,” the insider continues. “Everyone trusts them. They’re the guys who’ll lend a hand, share a beer and never stir the pot.” Ok, maybe a small amount of stirring but it has always been in good humour, according to the source.

That goodwill could pay off in more ways than one. Insiders say Matt and Robbie are now firm favourites to take the coveted top spot in the auction order, giving them first pick of when their home goes under the hammer.

“The boys were given the heads up that if they bring everyone back together it could work in their favour,” the source added.

“With the other houses potentially rewarding them with a Miss Congeniality prize, allowing them to pick the auction order. The auction order can make or break your chances. Everyone knows going first can set the tone for the night and because the boys are on good terms with everyone, most people would be happy to see them lead the charge.”

Behind the scenes, production is loving the narrative. Nothing says “feel-good finale” like a redemption arc and Mat and Robbie are the only ones with enough social credit to pull it off.

“When The Block ends with harmony and camaraderie, it always feels like a better story,” one insider adds. “And right now, they’re the only ones who could make that happen.”

And if you needed any more proof that these two are the franchise’s emotional support tradies, fan-fave Mat is set to get brutally honest in the lead up to the finale, with a hilarious rundown of every team this season.

“Get your popcorn out for this upcoming classic The Block moment,” they said. “It is honest and hilarious.”

“Brit’s calculated, Han doesn’t even know she’s on a TV show yet, Alicia does a lot of screaming and Ben and Em are the nicest people (maybe a tad boring)… but I’ve loved getting to know them all,” he laughed off-camera.

Classic Mat, equal parts roast and love letter.

So as auction day creeps closer, all eyes are on the boys from House Five. The unlikely peacekeepers who might just rebuild more than a house this year.
