Blizzard Entertainment has continued to lean into seasons in Overwatch 2 as a way to keep the game feeling fresh years after its launch.
The original Overwatch enjoyed 35 competitive seasons over six years, from season one in 2016 to season 35 in 2022. As of 2025, Overwatch 2 is in its 17th season. Seasons last roughly two months and add new heroes, maps, and more to the game.

When does the current Overwatch 2 season end?
Overwatch 2’s 17th season, Powered Up, ends on Aug. 26. The season started on June 24, 2025, and will wrap up when the next season begins.
Season 17th introduced new maps called Aatlis, Esperança, and Samao, and reworks to New Junk City and Suravasa. It also includes the Summer Games and Hacks & Hijinx events.
