The show must go on - Farnworth singer performs for his neighbours in lockdown

A singer from Farnworth entertained his neighbours with a free concert held in his front garden.

Gary Daniels performed from his driveway in Daisy Avenue, for just under an hour on Saturday.

As well as singing hits from artists such as George Ezra, Olly Murs and Take That, Gary also issued regular reminders for people watching to keep to social distancing guidelines.

He said: "Ever since lockdown my neighbours have been asking me to do something and a lot of my friends who work in the industry are doing the same thing.

"Traditional club land, even before coronavirus, has been struggling for a few years as well, so we're trying to showcase what we do on social media and from our gardens, and then hopefully once this is over we can get people back in the clubs.

"Four to five months work has completely gone for myself and other people I know and work with, and it's very possible it could go on for even longer. Unfortunately lots of people who are trying to do live shows on Facebook get cut off due to them not owning the copyrights to music. It seems as if I was very lucky.

"I really enjoyed doing it though and the reaction has been really good. I've had a lot of messages from local people and even people I don't know asking when I'm going to be doing it again."

Gary was set to launch his own music festival - the first ever Farnworth Live during the late May bank holiday.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this has been postponed but he assured people with tickets that it would still be going ahead.

"Farnworth Live is still very much taking place," Gary added.

"We've put logistics in place to move it to a later date but we're just waiting to see what happens before we announce a date and then have to move it again."

Due to the success of his driveway performance, Gary added that more garden concerts are likely follow in the future, weather permitting, including one for a very special occasion.

He said: "I'm definitely going to get out and do it again if the weather's nice.

"I want to do one on VE Day so hopefully the weather stays kind to us and we can have a little bit of a celebration."
