The seven Bristol areas with the highest coronavirus rates

A North Somerset town is recording the region's highest coronavirus infection rate, latest government figures show.

The data - which covers the seven days up to Friday, December 25 - shows Clevedon Central had an infection rate of 394.9 per 100,000 people after 32 positive covid-19 tests were recorded.

It is followed by the two Bradley Stoke neighbourhoods, which has been recording high infection rates recently. You can find out more about what is going on in the town here.

However, no areas in the region have infection rates above 400, an improvement from earlier this week when there were three.

Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire escaped the top tier in Matt Hancock's review yesterday, despite recording hundreds of new cases in the latest daily breakdown.

But Bath and North East Somerset has been stepped up today from Tier 2 to Tier 3, meaning pubs, restaurants, cafes and many other businesses must close. You can follow our liveblog with the latest coronavirus news here.

Below are the neighbourhoods with case rates above 250, listed in descending order:

Where is the data coming from?

You can see the latest national data on the government's website.

The map displays weekly data, which are updated everyday.

The data can be viewed by local authority but also by smaller sections called 'Middle Super Output Areas'.

The map highlights which areas of the nation have three or more confirmed cases of the virus and colour co-coordinates the areas by how many cases they have.
