The secret weapon Liverpool can use to overcome Man City in Premier League title race

The dramatic Premier League title race is entering its final act.

Liverpool have five matches left to play and are sat in pole position on 82 points although Manchester City are just two points behind and have a game in hand.

At this stage of the season every advantage and every tiny detail can be the difference between clinching the domestic trophy and narrowly missing out.

Now, to find out just where teams are finding success on the pitch Driblab have reviewed all set-piece data from across the domestic campaign.

What makes for phenomenal reading here for Jurgen Klopp's side is the fact that they are the best team in Europe for scoring from set-pieces and one really stark data point to note is the fact that City - although winning a lot of set-pieces - do not score anywhere near as often as they should at only 0.28 times per game.

Firstly, Liverpool score just more than 0.51 set-pieces per game - which in other words equates to a set-piece goal every other match, a metric better than any other team in any of Europe's top five leagues.

The Reds also rank incredibly highly when looking at how many set-piece goals teams are expected to score from their chances during matches too at just over 0.6 (set-piece xg) per game.

It then shows the number of set-piece goals a team scores per game on the vertical axis.

The highlighted teams in the graphic are the best 20 teams for scoring from set pieces per game.

Interestingly 24% of the goals are from set-pieces in the Premier League and on average around 0.52 expected goals per game are created in the English domestic competition.

Seven of the 20 top set-piece scoring teams play in the Premier League and the most dangerous set-piece chance creator is Cardiff City with 0.81 xG set-piece per game but the lack of they only score a third of what they generate on set-pieces.

In this Premier League title race, where Manchester City and Liverpool are battling for every advantage possible - this one could just help Klopp and his men across the line in the final five matches.
