There’s a secret Leeds venue showcasing great talent where you pay what you feel.
For those who don’t know, The Holbeck, based at Jenkinson Lawn, beneath the railway arches, is a social club managed by Slung Low. The social club has a traditional members’ bar but the rest of the venue is a creative space to support artists and companies developing new shows and productions.
Many genres are covered at the Leeds venue with theatre, music and comedy being some of the Holbeck’s specialities.

In a somewhat unique twist, audiences pay what they feel like to get in The Holbeck, which prides itself on being the oldest social club in Britain.
On their website, the premise of the venue is explained. It is described as: “A place where we invite other companies to present their work that otherwise might not get to be seen in Leeds.
All work presented at the Holbeck is pay what you decide. The equipment and vehicles of the company are lent to those who have need. It is a useful place that shares its resources with those artists who need them.”
The Holbeck is also home to the Cultural Community College hosting its classes and talks.
The Holbeck is owned by the members and It is managed by Slung Low.
