The reason Christian Pulisic does not start in Chelsea's FA Cup semi-final vs Man United

Frank Lampard has confirmed that Christian Pulisic has a small injury and claimed it would have been a risk for him to start against Manchester United.

Lampard has opted to make several surprise changes to his side to take on United in this evening's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Willy Caballero starts in goal, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma and Toni Rudiger at the back.

Reece James and Marcos Alonso are the wing backs with Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Willian, Mason Mount in midfield with Olivier Giroud up top.

“They are a very strong team at the moment and have obvious and clear threats,” Lampard told BBC Sport when explaining his team selection.

“But my thoughts are with what we can do. Does it make us stronger defensively? Can we still give an attacking threat in a different way? I think we can.

“A couple of changes I have made with Christian Pulisic has got a small injury issue and there is a risk in starting him trying to play the full game.

“Maybe he can come off the bench but other than that I am confident that I have picked a team that can win the game.”
