The Queen's funniest moments remembered as monarch's famous sense of humour celebrated

King Charles III has announced that the nation will be in a period of mourning until seven days after The Queen's funeral.

Queen Elizabeth II died aged 96 at her Balmoral home on Thursday evening (September 8), with some of her family members by her bedside.

Since then, a catalogue of changes have already began falling into place, as Charles assumed the throne immediately following his mother's death.

And William and Kate have now become the new Prince and Princess of Wales, it was announced by the new King in a heartfelt speech to the nation just 24 hours after The Queen's death.

Although the mood of Britain is a sombre one at present, many people will take comfort in looking back at pictures of Her Majesty smiling and enjoying herself.

Here are four times when The Queen made us laugh while carrying out her duties as our Head of State.

James Bond

Not to be outdone by all the incredible performances at the London 2012 Olympic Games, The Queen made a dramatic entrance with the help of another British icon.

Although Her Majesty would never normally be seen crossing paths with James Bond, the pair walked together through the halls of Buckingham Palace with The Queen's corgis running out in front of them.

As part of the skit created by ceremony director Danny Boyle, the Queen received a visit from 007 in Buckingham Palace, before the pair left together by helicopter.

She then appeared to skydive into the Olympic Stadium to greet cheering crowds.

It was an iconic moment in British history that we will never forget.

Cutting a cake with a SWORD

Her Majesty cut countless cakes throughout her incredible 70-year reign, as a regular guest of honour at countless charity events, official openings and glamorous balls.

Queen Elizabeth II drew giggles at an event in Cornwall when she insisted on using a large ceremonial sword to carve up a cake ahead of meeting with G7 leaders.

She cut many cakes during her lifetime, once with a ceremonial sword. The Queen tried out the more unorthodox method at a charity event for the Eden Project in Cornwall.

When Kate Middleton, who is now the Princess of Wales, reminded her that a standard knife was available, the Queen ploughed on.

Continuing to clutch the sword in both hands, she jokingly replied: "I know there is, but this is more unusual."

Her Jubilee tea with Paddington Bear

Many Royal Family fans will remember when The Queen met Paddington Bear as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

A video shows Paddington trying to pour Queen Elizabeth II a cup of tea, but the water runs out.

And Her Majesty calmly responds saying "never mind" reflecting her immense dignity and kindness.

She was filmed having tea with Paddington Bear, in a sketch which opened the BBC's Party at the Palace marking her 70 years on the throne.

As the celebrations were about to begin, Paddington offered her his beloved snack - a marmalade sandwich. "I always keep one for emergencies," he told her, pulling one out from under his famous red hat.

"So do I", replied the Queen, opening up her signature black handbag and taking out her own.

In the aftermath of Her Majesty's death, Paddington Bear took to Twitter to share a touching message after the news broke.

A sombre message posted on the bear’s official Twitter account read: “Thank you Ma’am, for everything.”

In true Twitter fashion, the comments section under Paddington Bear's tweet erupted into heartfelt tributes to the Queen, who sat on the throne for 70 years.

Laughing with Philip

The Queen and Prince Philip enjoyed thousands of happy memories together during their 73-year marriage.

During this time, they attended countless official engagements together, hand in hand - but one stood out for a hilarious reason.

During a military review at Windsor Castle in 2003, a swarm of bees derailed the normal efficient-running of events.

The royal couple saw the funny side, which was luckily captured on camera by royal photographer Chris Young.

"It was a human moment," he said. She was giggling like a little girl and he was laughing too."

This weekend, the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror celebrate the life of Her Majesty the Queen with a commemorative special filled with all the key moments from Britain’s longest reigning monarch. Be sure to pick up your copy of the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror to get both pullouts.
