The Piano viewers say Claudia Winkleman's new show is 'just what we need' as it premieres on Channel 4

Claudia Winkleman's new television series, The Piano, hit Channel 4 on Wednesday, February 15, and viewers have dubbed it the tonic they needed "when the world feels so cruel at present".

The series, which will be spread across five episodes each set in a new location, hosted by The Traitors presenter, will see budding pianists from all over the UK come and play the performance of a lifetime. Yet, little do they know, sitting in a room in the station where the piano is located is world class pianist Lang Lang and pop sensation Mika, who will be choosing one musician from each location to perform alongside them at the Royal Festival Hall.

With heartfelt and impressive performances from the likes of a mother who gave up her music career to care for her autistic son full time to a young thirteen-year-old who is blind - to name just a few - viewers have dubbed the show "moving", "uplifting" and "wonderful", with many noting how it exceeded their expectations.

"The Piano on @Channel4 A little gem of a programme. Really uplifting #ThePiano," added another.

The heartwarming documentary and competition will be spread across five episodes across five consecutive weeks.

The Piano returns to Channel 4 next Wednesday at 9pm.
