An unassuming terraced house in the south Wales valleys hiding an indoor pool at the rear got bidders dipping their toes into the property market when it recently went under the virtual hammer.
The four-bedroom, mid-terraced house would have fooled anyone into thinking that it was a nice but nondescript, typical Valleys house from the front, but pushing the front door open would have revealed a house with a number of unexpected revelations.
Firstly, it looked fairly smart from the outside but it immediately became clear that on the other side of the front door was a renovation project.

The house in Bedwas, near Caerphilly, was not totally rundown, but definitely in need of updating with some damp issues to sort and DIY jobs definitely needing to be prioritised by whoever won the online bidding battle.
But the second, and more positive, surprise was the size of the house - larger than the average valleys terrace with the ground floor accommodation offering more rooms than expected, starting with a large front reception room that filled the width of the home.
This living room then flowed into the galley-style kitchen which then offered access into the dining room via a large, open doorway creating a sociable kitchen diner that then flowed into a conservatory.
From this added space there was a door that was hiding this terraced home's biggest surprise; a good-sized, indoor swimming pool.
It surprised the property agents who came to value it and then the potential bidders who came to view it before it went under the hammer with Paul Fosh Auctions with a guide price of £148,000.
Angie Davey, from Paul Fosh Auctions, was as surprised as anyone when touring the house ahead of the online sale.
Angie says: "The terraced house with swimming pool created a huge amount of pre-sale interest which translated to energetic online bidding. There were five bidders going to great lengths to secure what is a unique doer-upper terraced property.
"Eventually after 18 bids from the bidders the house in Bedwas, a convenient commuter town for Cardiff and Bristol, sold for a quite healthy £181,000."
It remains to be seen if the new owner will be refurbishing the swimming pool and diving into a lifestyle of pool parties and early morning lengths to clear any remaining sleepiness, or whether the pool is now closed and will be heading off to a skip.
