The One Show slammed by viewers after 'rude and unprofessional' end to the programme

Viewers were left fuming after guest Shakira was rudely cut off at the end of The One Show on Friday night.

And fans of the show have let their feelings know by sending in a number of complaints for the antics.

The Colombian singer, 44, was appearing on the show to promote her new single Don't Wait Up - her first music release for four years.

Presenters Alex Jones and Ronan Keating struggled as the show was met with technical difficulties as they tried to speak to the Waka Waka singer via a video link.

In a desperate attempt to speak to the star, Alex said: "Shakira can you hear us now? There's only a minute left of the show...but what does it feel like to be back?"

And Shakira managed a very short response - 45 seconds to be precise - before being cut off by the Welsh presenter as the show came to an end.

"I'm extremely excited, I feel very inspired," Shakira said.

"I feel like a horse that is running wild after so long being in a box at a stable. Now that it's actually safer to be in a recording studio with all the collaborators, everything that I've got is pouring out."

But Alex had to quickly jump in to interrupt the star and said: "Sorry that's all we've got time for..."

The show has since been slammed on social media for the way it handled the situation.

Many fans called it "disrespectful," with one saying: "We want Shakira back. This was disrespectful. #TheOneShow @BBCOne."

Another commented: "Sorry, #TheOneShow but cutting @shakira off that was was incredibly rude and unprofessional.

"If you knew you had mere seconds left, you should have cut your losses instead of effectively blanking an international music star.

"I think an statement of apology is owed."

"#TheOneShow manages to out embarrass itself #shakira," added a third.

And a fourth wrote: "Omg this is so sad, they cut shakira off she only spoke for about 45 seconds #TheOneShow."

Earlier in the month, Ed Sheeran was forced to awkwardly correct Alex after an on-air blunder.

Alex showered the Galway Girl singer, 30, with compliments and stats as he appeared on the show to discuss his song Bad Habits.

But despite her well-meaning compliments, things took an awkward turn when the singer was forced to correct the presenter on several of her points.

The One Show continues on BBC One on weekdays at 7pm.
