Chelsea could drop into Pot Three for next season’s Champions League depending on how the rest of the competition and the Europa League play out.
The Blues secured qualification for the 2020/21 European competition with a final-day victory over Wolves in July.
However, they could face a very difficult task to qualify from the Group Stage if they are put into Pot Three.
If RB Leipzig win their inaugural Champions League trophy and Inter Milan are successful in the Europa League, then the Blues will be put into Pot Three as they currently have the lowest coefficient in pot two.
Leipzig are playing Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final of the competition this evening (Thursday) in a one-leg tie.
Inter will face Shakhtar Donetsk on Monday, August 17, in the semi-final of the Europa League.
If both clubs win their respective trophies, then Chelsea may face a more difficult Champions League group as both Leipzig and Inter will jump above them in the seedings.
During the course of a season, each club is given ranking points, which can be gained by reaching various points of the Champions League and the Europa League.
The total that is reached over a five-year period is then determined as being a club’s coefficient, which becomes higher the further teams progress l in European competition - meaning they will be in a higher pot.
Two spots in pot one are reserved for the winners of last season's Champions League and Europa League, which would mean both Leipzig and Inter leapfrog Chelsea should they win their respective competitions.
Currently alongside Chelsea in pot two are the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Manchester United and Manchester City are also in pot two but Chelsea cannot play them in the group stage.
Lampard’s side will find out the other three teams in their group when the Champions League draw is carried out on October 1.
