The new Co-op stores opening in Wales this autumn

Supermarket chain the Co-op will open a further four stores across Wales this autumn.

The £2.5m investment is expected to create 80 jobs.

New stores at West Cross in Swansea, the Capital Quarter development in the centre of Cardiff’s and in Machen are scheduled to open in early October.

A fourth store in Carmarthen is scheduled to open in mid-October on the site of a former nursing home.

All of the stores will run on 100% renewable electricity.

John Hillman, Co-op acquisition manager in Wales, said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to make further significant investment in Wales – we are proud of our Welsh heritage which traces back to the mid-1800’s.

"Our aim is for these stores to operate at the heart of local life and make a difference in their communities."

Over the past four years the Co-op has opened 40 new stores in Wales, where it currently has more than 160 stores employing around 3,000.

UK-wide is looking to open a further 100 outlets this year.
