Speculation over the heights and ages of NBA players has swirled for years. Former Golden State Warriors small forward Kevin Durant was listed at his 17-year-old height years into his professional career. His height was bumped up to 6-foot-9 but, in photographs, he appears to be taller than 6-foot-11 DeMarcus Cousins.
Back in 2016, Durant admitted in an interview with KNBR that he is 7-foot-0 in shoes.
Now, the NBA has taken measures to put an end to the speculation, requiring all teams to provide precise and accurate heights and ages for every player on their rosters. So, how do the Warriors’ core players measure up?
Well, Stephen Curry admits to being a hair under 6-foot-3.
“Without shoes, I’m officially 6’2″ and 3-quarters,” he told The Athletic’s Anthony Slater. “But I don’t play basketball without shoes.”
The NBA’s new rules aren’t about team parity or fair play, but cold, hard gambling cash. As NBC Sports’ Kurt Helin writes, “If the NBA is going to ask for a slice of sports gambling revenue, they are going to have to be very transparent with a lot of things … .”
Will there be any age-related bombshells this season, whether with the Warriors or other players in the league?
One years-old mystery NBA fans surely want solved surrounds Greg Oden’s age. His birthday is listed as Jan. 22, 1988, putting him at 19 years old when he was selected No. 1 overall in the 2007 NBA draft. Kevin Durant was picked No. 2 overall that year; his birthday is Sept. 29, 1988, making him and Oden the same age.
But, are they?
