From Albania to Zimbabwe, the most watched movie on Prime Video at the moment is a Romcom called Upgraded, starred by Latina actress called Camila Mendes. The film also stars Archie Renaux as Mendes' love interest as well as Thomas Kretschmann, Grégory Montel, Lena Olin and Marisa Tomei.

The movie currently sits at number one in 98 countries including the U.S., the U.K., Canada and every Latin American country. In fact, it's easier to name the countries where it doesn't hold the top spot: Cameroon, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Italy, Singapore, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Malaysia.

Upgraded tells the story of Ana (played by Mendes), an ambitious intern who dreams of a career in the art world while trying to impress her demanding boss, Claire. When Ana is upgraded to first class on a work trip, she meets Will (Renaux), who mistakes Ana for her boss—a white lie which sets off a some classic Romcom mishaps.

Who is Camila Mendes?

Mendes was born in Virginia to Brazilian parents Victor and Gisele. Her first acting gig was a commercial for IKEA but she hit it big with her next role: Veronica Lodge in The CW's teen drama series Riverdale, a dramatic take on the classic Archie Comics, a staple of U.S. pop culture. She played Veronica for six seasons.

By 2018 she had already made her debut on the big screen thanks to her role as Morgan on The New Romantic, joining the cast of Netflix's The Perfect Date shortly after. Her next move continued her roll through Romcom territory with a supporting part on the critically acclaimed Palm Springs, opposite Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti. She then shifted gears by headlining the thriller Dangerous Lies, also for Netflix.

Her next role will see her exploring her Brazilian roots in another Prime Video romantic comedy titled Música, which has the Brazilian communities of Newark, New Jersey as a background. In an interview with People Magazine in 2017, Mendes said about her mixed culture:" I really appreciate how these two cultures created who I am. I am a Brazilian of blood, with all the extended family of Brazilians, but I was born and raised in the United States. When I go to Brazil, I feel like an American, and in the United States, I always realize the traits that make me Brazilian."
