'The Most Popular Things:' Woman Tries to Build, Order Custom Chevrolet Online. Then She Realizes What Features Aren’t Available

A woman who purchases cars for her family dealership identifies the most “annoying” thing about ordering any General Motors product.

TikTok user Brooke (@brookebuyscars) is a car buyer for her family’s car dealership. She posted a video on Aug. 15 that reveals one of the most irritating aspects of her job. “I’m about to show y’all the most annoying thing about ordering a Chevrolet or Cadillac—any GM. If anyone out there is a GM ordering person, you understand my pain,” she says.

Her computer is open to the GM Order Workbench. She has a search open for a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox. “Let’s start with the Equinox,” she says. “So it says ‘Equinox Constraints.’ Basically, these are the things I cannot build this week.”

The Chevrolet and Cadillac Buying Process

Brooke shows viewers the search results, which include the following options: the LT with the safety and tech package; the LT with the Midnight Edition but without the safety and tech package; and the RS model with the safety and technology package. There’s another option for an LT with a safety and technology package, and at least one other feature that is cut off.

“But, yeah, these are kind of the most popular things that you would want on any of those models,” Brooke says. “Like, why would I build an RS without the safety and technology package? Again, this is the frustrating thing about ordering.”

She then shows two other fields: the National Quantity and Placed Quantity. “That basically means this is how many vehicles they’re building with those items in the nation. Now, notice, to the constraint quantity—that’s my store—I get none of these, yay,” she says.

She concludes the video with a closeup: “Now you understand why I can’t build some things, and it’s very annoying.”

Viewers React to Brooke’s GM Order Workbench Tour

In the comments section, viewers who’ve participated in the GM buying process said they can feel Brooke’s pain.

“Back when I used to sell Cadillacs, I took an order for a 2013 Escalade ESV Platinum in Black Ice Metallic with Cocoa Brown interior,” wrote one person. “It took 10 months to build because at the time of order mine was the only one of that color combo nationwide and they refused to start building it until they received a second one in their production queue. My customers almost cancelled three times, but ended up holding on and they were super happy when it finally came in.”

A second user wrote, “I only ever custom-ordered one truck, and my dealer waited until they got the allocation for it. Then the guy in charge of the orders liked my specs so much he copied it and ordered two. I was so mad.”

A third person said, “Typical GM shenanigans.”

How Long Does It Take to Get a GM You Ordered?

According to Quality Chevrolet, buyers can expect to wait between 10 and 12 weeks for a factory-ordered Chevrolet. That is an increase from pre-pandemic times, when the delivery could happen within a few weeks. Of course, Reddit is full of similar complaints from both consumers and dealership workers like Brooke.

Motor1 reached out to Brooke via TikTok comment and direct message for comment.

@brookebuyscars Most frustrating thing about ordering cars at a #Chevy and #Cadillac store 🤣 Maybe one day it’ll get easier but I think it’s been like this for awhile #auto #newcars #howto ♬ original sound - Brookeeguy
