The MongolZ make history anew as first Asian CS2 team to achieve this feat

After winning the CS2 Esports World Cup 2025 last month, The MongolZ have etched another historic achievement.

The all-Mongolian squad earned the top spot in Valve Regional Standings (VRS) global ranking system, making them the first Asian team in Counter-Strike 2 history to reach such milestone.

The MongolZ achieved this remarkable feat after their win in the third round of the FISSURE Playground 2 Swiss stage, where they beat TYLOO 2-1. TYLOO won the first map of Mirage (13-10), but MongolZ made a quick turnaround and took the next two maps, Overpass (13-10) and Ancient (13-7).

At the time of writing, The MongolZ have earned 1,969 VRS points, ahead of Austin Major champions Team Vitality and Shanghai Major winners Team Spirit, who are holding the second and third spots with 1961 and 1947 points, respectively.

According to HLTV, these rankings include matches and secured prize money from unfinished events. Since FISSURE Playground 2 is ongoing, changes are expected to happen to these rankings over the course of the tournament ending on Sept. 21.

The Mongolian side is set to face FaZe Clan in a round four qualifying match on Sept. 16. A win could increase the MongolZ’s lead in the VRS global rankings, but a loss to the American might result in losing their hold of the number one spot.

The MongolZ have seen several ups and downs throughout their tenure, and their hard work finally started to pay off. Their Esports World Cup triumph earlier this year marked the first time an Asian team secured a legitimate S-tier championship in 15 years. It was also was one of the major factors for them to claim the number one rank in VRS.

The team posted their achievement on X (formerly Twitter), and fans have been congratulating them since then. With momentum on their side and tough matches ahead, The MongolZ now face the challenge of defending their hard-earned spot.
