The moment elderly woman is mown down by heartless hit-and-run driver

A frame from shocking footage shows the moment an elderly woman was mown down by a callous hit-and-run driver as she crossed a road with her shopping trolley. The pensioner, aged in her 80s, was struck by the white van as she was walking across the street in Lichfield, Staffordshire, on February 25 this year.

Staffordshire Police has now released the disturbing video showing the moment the OAP was sent crashing to the ground in a bid to track down the driver. She had been walking near Lichfield Garrick Theatre at Castle Dyke at around 10.30am when she was sent sprawling by the vehicle, which then failed to stop.

The victim was taken to hospital where she received treatment to a serious ankle injury. Officers are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone who recognises the van to get in touch with them.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers have released this shocking footage as part of an appeal for information after an elderly woman was involved in a non-stop road traffic collision in Lichfield. It shows the moment the woman, in her eighties, was hit by a white van near to Lichfield Garrick Theatre on Castle Dyke.

"The collision took place at around 10.30am on Friday 25 February. The vehicle did not stop.

"The woman was taken to hospital with a serious ankle injury. Any witnesses, or anyone with any information, is asked to contact us via 101, or report online, quoting incident number 217 of February 25."
