The mixed Wales player ratings as Nottingham Forest star puts his hand up for World Cup starting spot

WAYNE HENNESSEY 6

Reacted reasonably well when needed. A couple of smart saves in the first half. Did have a slightly nervy moment from a stray back-pass but still pretty solid. Can't really be blamed for the goal.

CONNOR ROBERTS 7

A combative presence out wide. Safe to say he ruffled a few feathers in the visiting camp. Plenty of effort as there always is, but not quite enough penetration in the final third. Some really good defensive work, mind. Subbed.

JOE RODON 6

Some typically positive contributions, but just didn't quite look himself at times. Showed a little hesitation in his decision-making alongside Cabango and Hennessey that occasionally caused problems.

BEN CABANGO 7

Couple of nervy moments early on resulted in some mistakes, but improved as the game progressed. On the whole, did quite well against the challenge of Lewandowski. A reasonably solid showing in tough circumstances.

RHYS NORRINGTON-DAVIES 5

Showed brief flashes, but couldn't really get into the game. A moment in the second half where he burst through the heart of the midfield before spraying a pass straight out of play just about summed up his night. Subbed.

DANIEL JAMES 7

Searing pace proved a useful weapon for his side, particularly on the counter-attack, but couldn't quite find the end product needed to make a breakthrough. Missed a good one-on-one opportunity, but perhaps deserved more for his efforts.

JOE MORRELL 6

Mopped up nicely in the middle of the park, and kept the midfield ticking over for much of the evening. Was perhaps guilty of not looking after the ball well enough at times during the second half, mind.

DYLAN LEVITT 5

A couple of solid interventions, and some brief spells of promise in the final third. Looked comfortable on the ball, but nothing to really get pulses racing too much. A pretty quiet outing on the whole. Subbed.

NECO WILLIAMS 7

Worked his socks off all night up and down the left flank. Linked up really nicely with James down the and made some top class interventions to try and keep Poland at bay. Another performance oozing with maturity.

GARETH BALE 6

A couple of flashes of brilliance, but largely struggled to get out of second gear. So close to earning an equaliser late on with a header, but wasn't in the game nearly as much as Rob Page would like. Protecting him for the World Cup is the main priority, of course, and that might well explain what was a flat showing at times.

BRENNAN JOHNSON 8 (STAR MAN)

Pace caused Poland real problems all evening. Carved out a couple of really decent chances for himself, and may well feel his performance deserved more. A real positive on what was otherwise a disappointing night. Has to feel he's in with a good chance of starting in Qatar.

Subs

Kieffer Moore (on for Norrington-Davies 58) - Couldn't really get going up front, although some terrible refereeing calls certainly didn't help 6

Rubin Colwill (on for Levitt 72) - Slotted in seamlessly up front and caused a couple of problems for the Polish defence. A bright cameo 7

Sorba Thomas (on for Roberts 85) - Would have had an assist were it not for the crossbar 6
