The Met Office weather forecast for Wales this weekend with yet more rain expected

Blustery showers and gales will continue to hit Wales this weekend.

Following a mostly dry day on Friday, the weekend was predicted to kick off with spells of rain and cloud.

Radar images show widespread areas of heavy rain moving over the country during Saturday afternoon.

A windy day is also in the offing with gales forecast near the coast, according to the Met Office.

Though temperatures are forecast to climb to a mild 11C in many locations strong winds will make the air feel chilly.

Windy conditions will persist into the overnight hours accompanied by outbreaks of heavy rain approaching from the west.

Much of the same is set to continue on Sunday though showers will be interspersed with spells of sunshine during the day. Winds will gradually ease but the chilly conditions will not.

As the damp and dreary weekend comes to a close there's more wet weather on the cards for the early part of the working week.

Forecasts are warning of more persistent rain on Monday and Tuesday.

A yellow weather warning is set to come into effect for 24 hours from 12pm on Monday.

The Met Office is warning of the risk of disruption to travel and flooding in areas from Builth Wells northward to near Welshpool.

According to BBC forecaster Derek Brockway commuters may have to contend the threat of hail in addition to long spells of rain. Falling temperatures could also allow for some snow on the hills.
