Jason Manford denies he's the hedgehog in The Masked Singer after viewers are convinced it's him

Viewers think they've worked out the identity of the hedgehog on The Masked Singer - and it's because of one clue.

Fans tuned in to the first episode of the bizarre new ITV gameshow, which sees 12 celebrities sing with their identity concealed behind an elaborate costume as a panel try to guess who they are.

Viewers playing along at home are confident about the identity of the hedgehog, pointing the finger at Salford comedian Jason Manford, although he has since denied it.

Replying to a viewer on Twitter he said: "Nah I'm too busy!" with a blowing-a-kiss emoji.

Characters, who have their speaking voices distorted, gave clues to their identity before picking up the microphone to sing.

One of the hedgehog's clues immediately led some fans to Jason.

"I think I the hedgehog is Jason Manford as he said he once died every evening at 8.30pm," explained one viewer on Twitter.

"My thoughts are that he was in the musical Sweeney Todd and he did die early on each night."

Another wrote: "OK, I reckon Jason Manford is the Hedgehog in #TheMaskedSingerUK.

"He has a trained, operatic-sounding voice and in 2012 had a short run at The Adelphi in Sweeney Todd playing Pirelli who gets killed by the titular character each night. Fits the clues?"

"The hedgehog has to be Jason Manford," said another fan.

"If the hedgehog is not Jason Manford I will literally eat a shoe. I will eat several shoes," commented another.

The judges are chat show host Jonathan Ross, chart-topper Rita Ora, presenter Davina McCall and Hollywood actor and comedian Ken Jeong.

The show is hosted by comedian Joel Dommett, who has presented I’m A Celebrity… Extra Camp and Singletown for ITV2.

Saturday night's episode saw the first masked character, the butterfly, revealed to be EastEnders legend Patsy Palmer.

The Masked Singer continues tonight at 8pm.
