“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is gearing up for its closing line.
Amazon picked up a fifth and final season of the acclaimed Prime Video series about a housewife-turned-comedian in New York, the studio announced Thursday.
The show, which is executive produced by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, debuted its fourth season on Friday.
“Amy, Dan, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel have blazed an unparalleled path, elevating the stories we tell about women, challenging the norms in our industry, and forever altering the entertainment landscape with their one-of-a-kind storytelling,” Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement.
Rachel Brosnahan stars as Miriam “Midge” Maisel on the series, which began in 2017.
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” has won 20 Emmys, including for outstanding comedy series in 2018. It also won the Golden Globe for best musical or comedy series in 2017.
“The dozens of awards cement Maisel’s legacy in many ways, but what’s even more enduring and poignant are the characters Amy created and the joyous, brilliant, singular world she and Dan brought to life,” Salke said.
Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen, Marin Hinkle and Tony Shalhoub also star on the show.
