The Man Utd star who Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp 'would take all day long'

Liverpool pundit Danny Murphy reckons Reds boss Jurgen Klopp would take Daniel James at Anfield "all day long".

The Welshman, who signed for Manchester United this summer in a £15million deal from Swansea City, has been a huge hit at Old Trafford so far this season, despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side struggling in the Premier League.

Liverpool, conversely, have yet to drop points in the top flight and sit pretty at the top of the standings.

Despite that, Murphy, who played for the Reds as well Fulham and Tottenham, reckons James would fit in perfectly on Merseyside, along with another of his United team-mates.

"United need more quality to catch up to their rivals but that doesn't mean they don't have any at the club," Murphy said in his Daily Mail column

"I think Jurgen Klopp would take Marcus Rashford and Daniel James all day long, they would fit in with his philosophy very well.

"At (Manchester) City, we know Pep Guardiola liked Harry Maguire and he'd probably look at (Paul) Pogba and think he's a talent he could really improve.

"United's squad is relatively thin compared to previous seasons but injuries do give an opportunity for young players to thrive. There is an excitement about (Mason) Greenwood and he's already scored a couple of goals. He'll get his chance now. Dan James has been better in a United shirt than anyone could have anticipated."

United face Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday evening and are currently 13 points behind Klopp's men - although they do have a game in hand.

Murphy still feels though that there is enough quality in Solskjaer's squad to mount a top-four challenge.

"United's first XI is nowhere near Liverpool or Manchester City but it's competitive and good enough to have a run at the top four," he added.

"They should have yielded better results than they have done this season."

United's struggles appear ingrained and are numerous but Murphy feels there is only one player who is playing with confidence, unburdened by previous disappointment.

He said: "It's ironic the one player who has really stepped up and had the confidence to play in a carefree way is Dan James who was in the Championship with Swansea this time last year.

"The rest just look preoccupied with the tactical part of the game. It's as though the pressure on their manager is trickling down to them."
